Privacy Policy

Effective October 1, 2026

The short version

Taken is an app that helps you answer one question: did I already take it today? This policy explains what that involves for your privacy. The answer is mostly "nothing leaves your iPhone", and the rest of this page explains the details.

What Taken stores, and where

To work, Taken keeps the following on your iPhone:

This information is stored in a database on your device, shared only between the Taken app and its Home Screen widget so the widget can show and record doses. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. Taken has no servers and no accounts, and the app itself makes no network connections.

Pill names and dose times can reveal information about your health. That is exactly why Taken keeps them on your device and nowhere else.

What we collect

Nothing. Taken does not collect, receive, store, sell or share any personal information or usage data. It contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software, and it does not track you across apps or websites.

Features that use your device

Home Screen widget

The widget reads and writes the same on-device data as the app. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Apple Watch

If you use Taken on Apple Watch, the watch and your iPhone exchange your pill status and logged doses directly with each other, using Apple's device-to-device connection. Your iPhone keeps the record. This data does not pass through us.

Reminders

Reminders are optional and off unless you turn them on. If you do, Taken asks your permission to show notifications. Reminders are scheduled locally on your iPhone; no push service or server is involved. The "My usual time" option is calculated on your device from your own logging times.

Siri, Shortcuts and controls

If you ask Siri about a pill, or use a Taken shortcut or control, Taken answers on your iPhone with that pill's name and today's status. Siri processes your request under Apple's privacy policy; Taken sends nothing to us. You can turn Siri off for Taken in iOS Settings.

History export (PDF)

When you export your history, Taken creates the PDF on your iPhone. It goes only where you choose to send or save it through the iOS share sheet. Once shared, it is handled by the app or person you shared it with.

Backups

Like other app data, Taken's data can be included in your iPhone's iCloud or computer backup, depending on your device settings. Those backups are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not by us.

Information Apple may share with us

If you have chosen to share analytics or crash data with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, anonymized statistics (such as the number of installs) and crash reports. This is controlled by you in iOS Settings and governed by Apple's privacy policy. It does not include your pills or doses.

Keeping or deleting your data

Your data stays on your device for as long as Taken is installed. You control it completely:

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete on our side. If you have questions about your rights under privacy laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, contact us and we'll help.

Children

Taken is not directed to children under 13, and because it collects no personal information, it does not knowingly collect any from children.

Not medical advice

Taken is a record of what you log, not medical advice. Always ask your doctor or pharmacist about your medication and doses.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change ever affected what happens to your data, we would explain it in the app before it took effect.
